Worcester Schools: Memo Directs Bus Drivers To Refuse ICE Agents

WORCESTER, MA - A memo was sent by the transportation department within Worcester Public Schools directing bus drivers to refuse Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agents who may be waiting at bus stops.

Patch confirmed with a representative from Worcester Public Schools that the memo being shared on X and other social media is authentic.

It reads:

"A recent notification has gone out regarding ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents potentially being at bus stops. If you are aware of any agents being at a stop, DO NOT let any student off the bus and contact the transportation office immediately."

Patch could not immediately find any posts or articles about ICE agents waiting at bus stops, but the news comes on the heels of a the Trump administration removing schools from immigration enforcement protections.

"Criminals will no longer be able to hide in America's schools and churches to avoid arrest," a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said.

The superintendent, Rachel Monárrez, of Worcester Public Schools recently sent out a letter stating the educational body would not "coordinate" with ICE.

"WPS is steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the safety, well-being and rights of all our children," Monárrez said.
