WORCESTER, MA — A Worcester man is in custody following a bank robbery in Pennsylvania earlier this week, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Christopher Grannis, 38, is facing charges after an incident on Apr. 20 when troopers responded to a report of a robbery in progress at a Pennian Bank location in Perry County, according to state police.

Police said the suspect, who was later identified as Grannis, entered the bank, demanded money from a teller and lifted his shirt to display what appeared to be a handgun in his waistband before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash in a black sedan.

Grannis, who is from Worcester, is linked to prior bank robberies in Massachusetts and had removed a GPS ankle monitor from his residence days before the incident.

The vehicle used in the robbery, described as a black Honda Civic, was later determined to have been stolen from Worcester, police said.

On Apr. 21, troopers located the vehicle near a campsite along the Juniata River in Mifflin County, PA. Grannis was taken into custody without incident. Investigators said items recovered at the scene, including an air pistol and air rifle, connected him to the robbery.

Grannis has been charged with robbery, theft, and making terroristic threats. He is being held at the Perry County Prison on $500,000 cash bail.

The case remains under investigation.
