Worcester Public Library Awarded 500 Chromebooks Through State Program

The award is one of the largest granted to any library in the Commonwealth, according to the city.

WORCESTER, MA — The Worcester Public Library is set to host a major digital equity announcement this week after receiving one of the largest technology awards granted to a library in Massachusetts.

Library officials announced they have been awarded 500 Chromebooks through the Connected and Online Program, a statewide initiative led by the Massachusetts Broadband Institute (MBI), a division of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative. The devices are intended to expand access to reliable technology for residents who need it most.

To mark the occasion, the library will hold a public event on Wednesday, April 29, at 10 a.m. at its main branch at 3 Salem Square.

The event will bring together representatives from the Worcester Public Library, the Massachusetts Broadband Institute, and the City of Worcester, along with community partners and guests. In addition to highlighting the library’s award, officials will also recognize eight Worcester-based organizations that will receive devices as part of the broader effort to close the digital divide across the city.

Library leaders say the investment represents a significant step toward improving access to education, job opportunities, and essential online services for residents who may not otherwise have the tools to connect.

The Connected and Online Program is part of a larger statewide push to ensure that all Massachusetts residents have access to the devices and internet connectivity needed to participate fully in today’s digital world.

The event is open to the public.
