NEW SALEM, MA — One person was hospitalized on Friday night after a small plane crashed near New Salem.
The crash occurred shortly before 8 p.m. at O’Laughlin Pond north of the Quabbin Reservoir near Route 122 in New Salem, Massachusetts State Police told Patch.
Police and fire crews also responded to the area after a witness reported a person calling for help after a plane had gone into the water, NBC Boston reported.
State police used a flotation device and tether line to reach the man, who was pulled to shore by the rescue team, according to NBC Boston's report.
State police said the pilot was the only person on board the plane. He was taken by helicopter to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, police said.
The man's current condition is unknown.
The Federal Aviation Administration was notified, and the crash remains under investigation.
