WORCESTER, MA — A Worcester teen is facing multiple firearms charges after police said they found a loaded gun concealed in his waistband during a patrol near Sever and Merrick streets on Tuesday.
Detectives with the Worcester Police Department’s Crime Gun Intelligence Unit were patrolling the area on May 5 when they spotted 20-year-old Cedric Tolson walking with two other men, identified by police as 18-year-old Ruben Barcelo and a 22-year-old man.
Police said detectives knew Tolson had an active arrest warrant and stopped the group.
While placing Tolson under arrest, detectives noticed what they described as a bulge in the front waistband area of Barcelo’s clothing. Based on their training and experience, detectives believed the bulge was consistent with the way firearms are sometimes carried illegally, according to police.
After lifting Barcelo’s shirt, detectives allegedly found a semiautomatic firearm and took him into custody, police said.
Barcelo was charged with possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm and possession of ammunition without an FID card, police said.
Tolson was arrested on the outstanding warrant and additional drug charges, according to police.
