Man Facing Charges In Worcester After Police Find Gun In Fanny Pack During Traffic Stop: WPD

A man from New Bedford was accused of being in possession of an unlicensed gun.

WORCESTER, MA — A man from New Bedford was accused of being in possession of an unlicensed gun after police said officers found the weapon during a traffic stop.

Robert Perkins, 22, is facing multiple firearm-related charges after police officers spotted a large fanny pack in a vehicle he was in that contained a firearm, accoridng to the Worcester Police Department.

Officers stopped a vehicle on Madison Street at about 12:46 a.m. on Wednesday after noticing that its license plate was obstructed, police said.

Police said the driver began yelling about the reason for the stop. Officers then frisked the driver and passengers for weapons, but none were found.

During the investigation, officers then spotted a large black fanny pack in the backseat containing a firearm, police said.

One of the passengers, identified as Perkins, claimed ownership of the weapon. Police said the firearm did not have a serial number.

Perkins was charged with unlicensed possession of a firearm, possession of a large-capacity firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, and improper storage of a large-capacity firearm.

The driver was also arrested on an outstanding warrant and charged with driving an uninsured motor vehicle.

Police did not release any more information regarding the incident.
