22 Worcester Fire Recruits Graduate From Academy

A new class of Worcester firefighters is joining the department after completing 14 weeks of recruit training.

The 22 members of Worcester Fire Department Class 2026-1 graduated Friday, June 5, during a ceremony attended by city officials, department leaders, union representatives and families. The recruits were sworn in by City Manager Eric D. Batista and receive (Joseph D. Early Jr., Worcester County District Attorney's Office )

WORCESTER, MA — A new class of Worcester firefighters is joining the department after completing 14 weeks of recruit training.

The 22 members of Worcester Fire Department Class 2026-1 graduated Friday, June 5, during a ceremony attended by city officials, department leaders, union representatives and families. The recruits were sworn in by City Manager Eric D. Batista and received diplomas and badges from Batista and Fire Chief Martin W. Dyer.

The graduates are Ryan Adams, Matthew Barrett, Cameron Bourke, Matthew Bouvier, John Deligianidis, Daniel DiTomasso, Thomas Dyer, Keenan Fleming, Edgardo Gonzalez, Randy Guarango, Sandip Gurung, John Jakaitis, Yeonis Jean Jacques, Sovibol Keo, Patrick Milott, Matthew Negrotti, Jacob Oh, John Ortiz, Connor O’Toole, Jackson Quinn, Gino Serra and Carlos Troche.

The ceremony included the presentation of colors by the Worcester Fire Brigade Pipes and Drums, an invocation and benediction by the Rev. Jonathan Slavinskas, the department chaplain, and remarks from Mayor Joseph M. Petty, City Councilor Kathleen M. Toomey, Batista, Worcester Fire Fighters Local 1009 President Ryan Kelly and Dyer.

Negrotti served as the class spokesperson.

The program also thanked the instructors who led the recruits through the academy: District Chief Terrence Baudin, Capt. Jeremy O’Connell, Capt. Michael McTigue, Lt. Jason Louis, Lt. Philip Doherty, Firefighter Richard Roy, Firefighter Nathan Schirner and Firefighter Kervin Lima.

The Worcester County District Attorney’s Office congratulated the graduates Friday, saying it was an honor to join the ceremony with city officials, Local 1009 and others.

Worcester firefighters are trained for duties including medical aid, structure fires, ladder work, breathing apparatuses and roof ventilation, according to the city’s Fire Employment page. The department’s mission includes fire suppression, emergency response, prevention and community risk reduction, according to the city’s Fire Department page.
