WORCESTER, MA — Make Music Day Worcester returned Sunday with a free all-day celebration of live music across the city.
The Worcester Arts Council event featured more than 30 artists and performers at 10 locations, including parks, plazas, businesses and public spaces. The June 21 celebration was part of the international Make Music Day movement, which is held in more than 1,000 cities worldwide.
Crocodile River Music opened the day at 10 a.m. at the Worcester Public Library. Other participating locations included Brussels Street Market, Clark University, the DCU Center, Francis R. Carroll Plaza, Husky’s Pub, The Grove Village and Vintage Grille and Gourmet Pizza.
“What drew me to the heart of Make Music Day is getting to celebrate those who are already doing great things,” Worcester Arts Council Chair Chris Michelotti said in a statement. “The event doesn’t belong to one person or group, but to everyone.”
The lineup included local musicians, bands, interactive performances and family-friendly activities across multiple genres. Performers included Paul Wykes, Julie Dolphin, Internet Famous, Post Road Chorus, Patrice Peros Voice Studios, Mister Motivation, J. Jordan, Michael Kae, Glowmanny, The Zach and Lyndsey Show, Evil Felipe, Charles Ketter, Heather Holland, The Ghosts We Carry, James Joyce, Jay Sully and DJWhizPK.
Cultural Development Officer Fabian Barracks said the event was designed to bring free performances into neighborhoods and public gathering spaces.
“Make Music Day Worcester demonstrates the power of the arts to activate our neighborhoods and strengthen community connections,” Barracks said in a statement.
The event was supported by the Greater Worcester Community Foundation, local artists, cultural organizations, businesses and community partners.
