Two Men Charged In Worcester After Police Recover Loaded Guns

WORCESTER, MA — Two men are facing firearm charges after Worcester police said officers recovered loaded handguns near Crompton Park during a neighborhood event.

Crime Gun Intelligence Unit officers were conducting proactive patrols near the park on June 16 when they saw two masked people displaying behavior consistent with carrying concealed firearms, according to Worcester police. Both fled when officers tried to make contact, police said.

Jihare Bonin, 23, was arrested with a loaded .40 caliber handgun, according to police. He was charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.

Damien Zevallos, 21, was initially released after removing identifying clothing, police said. A later search and surveillance review led officers to recover a loaded Glock .40 caliber handgun and identify Zevallos as the person who discarded it, according to police.

Zevallos was arrested June 18 without incident. He was charged with possession of a large capacity firearm, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a large capacity weapon, firearm or feeding device, possession of ammunition without an FID card, improper storage accessible to a minor and possession of a firearm as a subsequent offense.
