WORCESTER, MA — Two Worcester nonprofits are among 17 Massachusetts organizations awarded new grants from the Sincere Foundation.
The Framingham-based foundation announced Thursday it awarded $200,000 in grants to organizations addressing food security, housing stability and safe spaces. The Worcester recipients are Abby’s House and the Regional Environmental Council.
Abby’s House received $15,000 to support its shelter, housing and advocacy services for women and children experiencing homelessness. Founded in Worcester in 1976, Abby’s House opened the first shelter for women in Worcester County and has grown into a regional resource for affordable and supportive housing, according to the foundation.
“This generous grant from Sincere Foundation will continue to help the women and children of Abby's House get back on their feet and thrive,” Larissa Swenson, associate director of development and communications at Abby’s House, said in the announcement.
Swenson said the grant comes as Abby’s House marks its 50th anniversary and as homelessness and the affordable housing crisis deepen across Worcester and Central Massachusetts.
The Regional Environmental Council, a Worcester nonprofit, was also included in the foundation’s food security grant category. The announcement did not list individual grant amounts for every recipient.
Sincere Foundation said the latest grant round includes seven first-time grant recipients and 10 returning nonprofit partners. Since its inception in 2023, the foundation has awarded more than $1.2 million in grants to 63 organizations.
Grant proposals of up to $25,000 must be submitted by Sept. 14 for review in December, according to the foundation.
