SOUTHBOROUGH, MA — A Franklin man is facing charges after Southborough police said he nearly struck officers during a separate traffic stop.
Daniel Fishman, 48, was charged after a police officer stopped his vehicle around 1:20 a.m. Thursday on Turnpike Road, according to Southborough police. Police said Davis had been assisting Officer Jeremy McClosky at another stop when a passing vehicle swerved dangerously close to both officers.
Fishman was charged with operating under the influence of drugs, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operation of an unregistered motor vehicle, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, obstruction of a stationary emergency vehicle, marked lanes violation and using an electronic device while operating a motor vehicle, police said.
He also faces several drug charges, including possession of Class B drugs suspected to be cocaine, methamphetamine, oxycodone and amphetamines, as well as possession of Class E drugs suspected to be sildenafil and omeprazole, according to police.
Police said Davis followed Fishman’s vehicle after it swerved near the officers and then continued drifting and braking at random. Officials later determined the vehicle’s registration had been revoked and Fishman’s driver’s license had been suspended.
After a roadside sobriety assessment, Fishman was arrested. During an inventory search of the vehicle, police said they found prescription pill bottles, plastic baggies containing pills and powdery substances and a brown paper bag with pills inside a glove box.
Bail was set at $250 cash and a sober ride. Fishman posted bail and was released, police said. He is expected to be arraigned in Westborough District Court at a later date.
