WORCESTER, MA — A new class of police officers graduated Friday in Worcester, sending recruits to departments across Central Massachusetts.
Academy Class 01-26 graduated at Worcester Technical High School, with 22 new officers set to serve in Worcester. Three will serve in Auburn, six in Framingham, one in Holden, one in Westborough and one with the Quinsigamond Community College Police Department, the Worcester Police Department announced on Friday.
The ceremony included remarks from Worcester Police Chief Paul Saucier, City Manager Eric Batista, Mayor Joseph Petty, Councilor-At-Large Kathleen Toomey and Worcester County District Attorney Joe Early.
Each graduate was pinned by family members, friends or partners during the ceremony, according to the department.
Successful completion of the recruit officer course is required for municipal and university police recruits in Massachusetts under state law. The state’s Municipal Police Training Committee sets standards for basic police training for candidates hired by local police departments.
The Worcester Police Department congratulated the graduates Friday, calling the ceremony a celebration of their work completing the academy.
