WORCESTER, MA — A Lunenburg man will serve 12 years in federal prison after pleading guilty in a child pornography case.
Michael Myers, 39, was sentenced Thursday in federal court in Worcester to 12 years in prison and five years of supervised release after pleading guilty in March to one count of possession of child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for Massachusetts.
Myers was arrested and charged by criminal complaint in December 2024 and has remained in federal custody since then, according to prosecutors.
Federal officials said Myers was identified in August 2023 as the owner of a Kik Messenger account transmitting child sexual abuse material. In April 2024, investigators also identified Myers as the owner of a Reddit account transmitting child sexual abuse material, according to prosecutors.
During a December 2024 search of Myers' Lunenburg home, investigators found an anonymous private messenger application on his cellphone that showed several videos and pictures depicting child sexual abuse material had been sent and received, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Myers was previously convicted in 2015 of possession of child sexual abuse material and sentenced by state authorities to two years of probation. He is a Level 1 sex offender, prosecutors said.
The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations in New England and Lunenburg police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Danial Bennett of the Worcester Branch Office prosecuted the case.
