Police said they found a loaded ghost gun and suspected fentanyl in an open backpack near him.

WORCESTER, MA — A reported assault at Winslow Park on Thursday led to a man facing gun charges, police said.

Police said there was no fight when officers arrived, but they found McMahan lying down with an open container of alcohol and personal belongings around him. An officer checking the unzipped backpack for additional alcohol found the firearm and suspected drugs, police said.

The Worcester Police Crime Scene Unit responded to recover the weapon. Investigators determined the handgun had no serial number and McMahan did not have a license to carry, according to police.

McMahan was charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possessing ammunition without a firearm identification card, carrying a firearm while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and receiving an untraceable firearm. He also faces drug and alcohol charges, police said.
