The funding will help complete 24 additional private patient rooms designed to address capacity needs and expand access to acute care. The rooms are expected to open in summer 2027.

The North Pavilion currently has 72 private rooms focused on acute care and chronic disease management. The facility was built with unfinished space to accommodate the additional beds.

"This investment helps support the expansion of the North Pavilion, enabling us to provide high-quality care to more patients while addressing growing capacity needs," UMass Memorial Medical Center President Justin Precourt said.

The grant is the first corporate contribution to the North Pavilion fundraising campaign, according to UMass Memorial Health.

"We're proud to partner with UMass Memorial Health to help expand the North Pavilion to better serve our community," Bank of America Worcester President Michael Garand said.

Bank of America has about 170 employees and 14 financial centers in the Worcester area. Since 2020, the company has contributed about $2.9 million to local organizations and its employees have provided more than 10,500 volunteer hours, according to the bank.
