WORCESTER, MA — A second fox was euthanized following an animal attack in Worcester within a matter of days.
Worcester Animal Control shot the fox after it reportedly attacked two dogs around 8 a.m. Sunday, police said. Neither dog was injured and the fox was sent to the state for rabies testing.
The fox had moved into a neighbor's yard by the time animal control arrived, but officers located it there.
Both dogs were described as mixed breeds. One weighs about 30 pounds and the other weighs between 60 and 70 pounds, police said.
The incident came days after a woman was hospitalized after being bitten by a fox behind a Granite Street residence Thursday morning.
The same fox had also bitten a 6-year-old girl the day prior, according to multiple reports. After being euthanized, it had tested positive for rabies, the Telegram and Gazette reported.
Now, results from the second fox's rabies test have not yet been announced.
Rabies cannot be diagnosed based on an animal's appearance alone and testing may be performed on its brain, according to the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. The state provides rabies information and educational resources for residents, pet owners and health professionals.
