Man Injured In Daytime Stabbing Near Worcester Common

WORCESTER, MA — An off-duty Massachusetts State Police trooper intervened after a man was slashed with a knife near Worcester Common on Monday afternoon, police said.

Worcester police responded to 100 Front St. around 2:47 p.m. and found a man bleeding from his wrist. The victim told officers that two unknown men approached him in the Common before chasing him with knives and slashing his wrist, according to police.

One of the men had claimed he had a problem with the victim, prompting the victim to run away, police said.

An off-duty trooper who witnessed the attack drew his gun on the man accused of stabbing the victim, causing him to flee, according to police.

The victim suffered minor injuries. The Worcester Police Department Detective Bureau is investigating.
