Championship Basketball Team, Former Athletes Join Worcester College's First Hall Of Fame

WORCESTER, MA — A community college in Worcester will honor its athletics program during its first Athletics Hall of Fame celebration this fall.

Quinsigamond Community College will celebrate its inaugural class with a ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 11 a.m. Inductees include the 2006-07 men's basketball team and former student-athletes Maurice "Mo" Horton, Rich Small, and Trafficia Warburton.

The QCC Alumni Athletics Hall of Fame was established to recognize former student-athletes, coaches, teams and supporters whose achievements and service have contributed to the college's athletics program and broader community.

"The Athletics Hall of Fame provides an opportunity to recognize the individuals and teams whose accomplishments have elevated QCC Athletics and strengthened our college community," QCC President Luis Pedraja said. "These honorees have left a lasting impact on our campus and exemplify the determination, excellence and perseverance that define the QCC spirit."

Inaugural Hall Of Fame Class

Among those to be inducted is the school's 2006-07 men's basketball team, which won state and regional championships with a nine-player roster.

The team advanced to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Final Four and finished fifth in the nation. It was also inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in 2015.

Horton helped lead that team and remains the only player in QCC program history to score more than 1,400 career points. He later played at Worcester State University and has remained involved with local sports organizations through coaching and volunteer work.

Meanwhile, Warburton led the league in scoring and rebounding during her second season with QCC's women's basketball program. The college also recognized her work ethic on and off the court.

Small played for the men's basketball program before returning to QCC as a volleyball coach and mentor. He continues to promote and document QCC sporting events through photography and community involvement.

Spectrum News 1 and NECN Sports Director Kevin Shea will serve as emcee. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required here. It will take place at QCC's campus at 670 West Boylston St.
