WORCESTER, MA — Two Worcester teenagers are facing charges after police said they fled a traffic stop in stolen Dodge Challengers, returned to Auburn and ran from a crash.
An Auburn police officer clocked the two vehicles traveling 60 mph in a 40 mph zone on Washington Street at about 3:12 a.m. Thursday, officials said. Both drivers exceeded 100 mph when Lareau attempted to stop them, but the officer did not pursue because of the danger, police said.
Neighboring police departments monitored the vehicles as they traveled through the area. One Challenger eventually crashed and its driver entered the other vehicle before it headed back toward Auburn, according to police.
Auburn officers positioned themselves ahead of the car, and another officer used stop sticks to deflate its tires after it entered town. The Challenger crashed a short distance later and the occupants fled on foot, police said.
A third officer and K-9 Biza searched the area on the ground while a fourth officer deployed a drone. Auburn police and Massachusetts State Police also established a perimeter.
Biza tracked through the woods and found one person hiding behind a Route 20 business, according to police. Officers located the second person nearby.
Jaelen Cannon Feraud, 18, of Worcester, was charged with failure to stop for police, negligent operation, operating with a suspended license, possession of burglary tools and receiving a stolen motor vehicle, police said.
A 16-year-old from Worcester also faces charges, but police did not release the juvenile's name or list the charges.
