MILFORD, MA — A Worcester man is facing charges following an investigation into the sexual assault of a child at a church in Milford, police said.
Raul Feliciano, 63, is charged with rape of a child and indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, the Milford Police Department said on Monday. The child told detectives that Feliciano lured them into the basement of the family's church in Milford, where the assault occurred, according to police.
The Milford Police Department's Family Services Unit began investigating the allegation on Sept. 9. Detectives obtained a warrant for Feliciano's arrest Friday morning.
Worcester police arrested Feliciano at about 1:15 p.m. Friday before transferring him to Milford police for booking.
"To violate a child is among the most heinous of crimes," Milford Police Chief Robert Tusino said in a statement. "Doing so in a place of worship only further cements the depravity of this assault."
Tusino commended members of the Milford and Worcester police departments and the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section for their work in the arrest.
Feliciano was released Friday on $15,000 bail and is expected to be arraigned this week, police said.
