WAYLAND, MA — Wayland will honor local veterans and residents who died while serving in the military during a Veterans Day ceremony next week.
The town's ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. on Nov. 11, at the Wayland Veterans Memorial outside the Town Building, 41 Cochituate Road.
Speakers will include Public Ceremonies Committee Chair Richard Turner, a retired U.S. Navy veteran, Select Board Vice Chair Thomas Fay, state Rep. David Linsky and state Sen. James Eldridge.
Retired U.S. Navy veteran Julian Grant will deliver the keynote address. The program will also include the presentation of the Veterans Memorial Freedom Prize, a reading of the names of Wayland residents who died while serving the country and the laying of a wreath.
American Legion Post 133 will perform a rifle salute. Wayland High School band trumpeters, directed by Joe Oneschuk, will then perform echo taps.
The town's Veterans Day ceremony comes amid remembrances across the nation honoring all people who have served in the U.S. armed forces. The federal holiday traces its origins to the armistice that ended fighting in World War I on Nov. 11, 1918.
