Arson Blamed for Fire That Took Down Brown Middle School
Investigators are asking for the public's help in getting information on a fire that was intentionally set in Fitchburg.

FITCHBURG, MA—A Leominster firefighter was injured and a former school burned to the ground in a fire in Fitchburg that is now being called arson.
State Fire Marshal Peter J. Ostroskey and Fitchburg Fire Chief Kevin D. Roy said the 4-alarm fire early Monday morning at 62 Academy St., Fitchburg was intentionally set. The vacant building was the former Brown Middle School. One Leominster firefighter was injured in the fire.
Chief Roy said in a statement, “If anyone saw or heard anything about 3 a.m. this morning or has any information about this fire, please call the confidential, toll-free Arson Hotline at 1-800-682-9229.”
The Arson Hotline is part of the Arson Watch Reward Program, which provides rewards of UP TO $5,000 that helps to solve the crime of arson. The program is sponsored by the property and casualty insurance underwriters in Massachusetts.
The fire was jointly investigated by the Fitchburg Fire Department, the Fitchburg Police Department and State Police assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
