Police say Jose Acevedo admitted to entering the country illegally through Mexico from El Salvador.
AUBURN, MA – The suspected drunk driver in a two-car crash that injured a family of four allegedly admitted to police he is in the country illegally. Jose Acevedo, 43, of Auburn, has been charged with operating under the influence in Thursday's crash on Route 20.
Authorities said around 4:50 p.m. Thursday, a 2006 Chevrolet driven by Acevedo struck a 2015 Subaru Outback from behind, injuring both adults, including a possible broken neck to the mother of the two children in the car.
Acevedo was arrested after exhibiting "signs of intoxication" at the scene, according to police. Police said he registered a .26 Blood Alcohol Level, which is over three times the legal limit. Acevedo later allegedly admitted to entering the United States illegally through Mexico from El Salvador and to not having a driver's license.
He received additional charges of operating a motor vehicle negligently and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
An investigation into Acevedo's citizenship status is ongoing.
