WORCESTER, MA — Local city and state leaders will host a community meeting Thursday to discuss what will become of buildings and other parcels Becker College will leave behind once it closes for good this summer.

Facing financial trouble, Becker's trustees this spring voted to close the school at the end of the 2020-21 academic year. The closure will leave behind dozens of properties in the historic Elm Park neighborhood between Park Avenue and downtown Worcester.

Thursday's meeting will feature District 4 Councilor Sarai Rivera and state Reps. Mary Keefe and John Mahoney talking about a range of topics related to the campus — including Worcester acquiring some of the buildings, or redeveloping Becker properties into open space or other uses.

Becker is still winding down operations, but plans to cease all student support by Aug. 31, according to the school's website. Becker students will be allowed to transfer to nearby colleges, and Clark University take over Becker's video game design, esports management and graphic design programs.

The Elm Park community meeting will begin at the cafeteria inside the Elm Park Community School, 23 North Ashland St., starting at 6 p.m.
