CLINTON, MA — Clinton police recovered a dead body from a wooded area near the Wachusett Reservoir over the weekend, but have so far found no evidence that the person died by foul play.

The body was found near 11 p.m. Sunday on state land off of Grove Street, which runs along the west side of a pond below the Wachusett Dam.

State police and Clinton police were still working to confirm the person's cause of death as of Tuesday morning, according to a statement from the department.

"The preliminary investigation does not indicate any foul play and the detectives and officers investigating the case believe that it is an isolated incident and there is no risk to the general public," Clinton police said in a statement Tuesday morning.

The 205-foot-tall Wachusett Dam holds back the Wachusett Reservoir, a 65-billion gallon body of water that's part of the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority supply system.
