Reason for running: In the words of a runner I met on the Newton Hills this year, "I run because I can." This year, I'm running to support cutting edge research at Dana Farber Cancer Institute in honor and memory of friends and family. But every race I do is in memory of my father; additionally, I started on this running journey after being on Boylston Street for the 2013 marathon. The amount of good that has been motivated by that awful day is incredible.

Marathon experience: This is my fourth marathon, third Boston. And I can't believe I'm saying that, every time it comes out of my mouth.

Training Tip: Take the first step. Four years ago, I couldn't run three miles without stopping. Now I have conversations about the best way to pace multiple marathons in a year. More importantly, when you run out of breath after the first step, remember it gets easier and more fun. For me, it was getting over that five mile hurdle that made me feel like I "got" running, and that those weird cross country runners in high school might have been onto something. Set a goal, and keep going.
