Boys & Girls Club employee receives $20,000 grant from Maytag

On Thursday, Oct. 28, Boys & Girls Club of Worcester honored Liz Hamilton, executive director, for being named the 2021 Maytag Dependable Leader Award recipient for her commitment to the local community. Hamilton was presented with a $20,000 check, thanks to Maytag, and will use the grant funds to create a mentorship program in partnership with local business leaders and Club youth. The mentorship program aims to foster open dialogues between youth and trusted adults surrounding goals, aspirations and even advice on navigating everyday situations. This new program kicked off Thursday evening during the celebratory event and Club youth had the opportunity to meet with their new mentors.

For more than 15 years, Hamilton has been essential to the success of the organization, and in 2015, she became the Club’s first female executive director in its then-126 years of existence. Hamilton has devoted her life to enriching the children in her local area and is constantly finding creative and fun ways for youth to get involved and better themselves.

Hamilton is one of seven Boys & Girls Club professionals across the nation to receive a Maytag Dependable Leader Award in 2021. Throughout their nearly 20-year partnership, Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Maytag have presented more than 110 Boys & Girls Club professionals with a Maytag Dependable Leader Award and $20,000 grant. Overall, Maytag has provided nearly $10 million to enhance youth development programming at Boys & Girls Clubs across the country.
