Break-In At Worcester Eatery With 'Best' Sandwich In Mass.

Worcester police arrested a 52-year-old man who broke into the Middle Eastern restaurant along Pleasant Street over the weekend.

WORCESTER, MA — Worcester police have arrested a 52-year-old city man for breaking into the popular Shawarma Palace restaurant over the weekend. The man smashed through the front door and took items from the restaurant, police said.

At around 3:15 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a report of a commercial alarm at the restaurant. At the scene, they found the front glass door of Shawarma Palace smashed open. They were able to use surveillance footage from the restaurant to identify a suspect.

About one block away on Front Street, police found the suspected burglar, Keith Ward, and arrested him on charges of nighttime breaking-and-entering, larceny, and vandalism.

In 2018, Shawarma Palace was rated as having the best sandwich in Massachusetts, based on Yelp reviews. Owner Charlie Dalli opened the restaurant at 3 Pleasant St. in 2014, and it's been racking up high reviews ever since.
