WORCESTER, MA — Everyone — even big, tough hockey players — deserve a comfortable sleep at night. That's the spirit behind the Boston Bruins' annual PJ drive.

The team's 13th annual PJ drive starts Saturday, and the Bruins are aiming to collect 13,000 pairs of pajamas this year to donate to the Department of Children and Families’ Wonderfund and the children's nonprofit, Cradles to Crayons.

That's a lot of pajamas, but there's a way to help. Dozens of public libraries between Worcester and Boston are accepting new pajamas for babies, children, and teens. The Worcester library system is participating for the first time this year with the goal of collecting 100 pairs. Many of the donations go to local DCF offices, which means they go to local children.

"We know the Worcester community has a big heart, so we expect that the response will be strong,” Worcester Public Libraries Youth Services Coordinator Cynthia Bermudez said in a statement.

Other local libraries participating include Milford, Needham, Westborough, and Hudson. You can find a full list on the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners website.

The Bruins' PJ drive runs Feb. 1 to March 15. The drive was started in 2008 by former Bruin P. J. Axelsson and his wife, Siw. They collected just over 1,600 pairs that year, and in 2019 collected over 13,000.
