Car Prowl Leads Worcester Officer To CVS, Then 2 Arrests
A credit card stolen during the car theft was used at the CVS to buy prepaid cell phones, police said.
WORCESTER, MA — A Worcester police officer over the weekend followed a trail of electronic evidence to find two people suspected of stealing a credit card from a car in the Vernon Hill area.
A Heywood Street resident reported the car break-in on Saturday morning, and also told police that a credit card taken during the incident and used at a CVS along Grafton Street.
The officer went to the CVS and pulled surveillance footage from around the time the card was used. The footage showed a man and a woman buying prepaid cell phones, according to police.
The officer then emailed the surveillance images across the department, and was soon able to identify the two people as a 38-year-old June Street resident and a 39-year-old Queen Street resident.
Less than two hours after the reported car prowl, the officer found the two suspected thieves at the downtown bus terminal — and they were still carrying the CVS bags, according to police. They were both arrested and charged with larceny from a vehicle, larceny under $1,200, possession of a stole credit card and identity fraud.
