A video showing an employee allegedly contaminating food has gone viral, prompting an investigation by local authorities.

SOUTHBRIDGE, MA — A video showing an employee at a fast food restaurant in Worcester County allegedly contaminating food has gone viral, prompting an investigation by local authorities and health officials.

The Southbridge Police Department said it has received numerous calls, online tips and media inquiries since the video surfaced online.

“At this time, the matter is being addressed in coordination with the Board of Health and restaurant management,” Southbridge police said in a statement Friday. “We are also working to determine whether the food was ultimately served to a customer and to identify any individual who may have been affected.”

The incident occurred at a McDonald’s in Southbridge, according to Boston 25 News. The station reported the video appears to show an employee putting fries in her mouth before repackaging them for customers.

It remains unclear whether the employee is still working at the restaurant.

“We understand the concern this incident has generated within the community,” police said. “While this investigation is ongoing, we ask the public to allow investigators and health officials to complete a thorough review of the circumstances.”
