'A Christmas Celtic Sojourn' Returns To Worcester
WGBH's 'A Christmas Celtic Sojourn' is returning to Worcester's Hanover Theatre for the 16th year of its holiday performance.

Brian O'Donovan's 'A Christmas Celtic Sojourn' will be celebrating its 16th year, opening in the Worcester's Hanover Theatre Dec. 18. The show offers a look into the Christmas spirit through Celtic, Pagan, and Christian traditions and features musicians, singers and dancers from around the Celtic world. The show is led by longtime host, Brian O'Donovan.
O'Donovan has taken the stage for all 16 years and says that each show brings something different. "It's almost like cooking with different ingredients, it always turns out good," O'Donovan says. A perk of watching the show grow over time is watching its members grow with it. Child dancers from the Harney Academy of Irish Dance from Walpole perform in the show each year and O'Donovan says he's amazed at how some have grown. "It's been around so long we've seen kids who started as dancers are now coming to the show as young adults," he says.
O'Donovan says this show and the holiday season come at a perfect time, when people need to celebrate life and light and be led on a nostalgic journey. "There is so much divisiveness and frankly meanness out there. This is a great way to celebrate a festival of lights, which is what Christmas is," O'Donovan says. He adds that 'A Christmas Celtic Sojourn' offers the audience the opportunity to spend time in their own emotions while being dazzled.
The show will be playing the Hanover Theater in Worcester for one night only on Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
