City Approves Second Deal with Marijuana Dispensary

The city manager approved the second of a possible four marijuana dispensaries in Worcester.

WORCESTER, MA — The city has agreed to conditions to allow for another marijuana dispensary in Worcester, the second in a maximum of four it will approve.

City Manager Edward M. Augustus announced last Wednesday that he will provide a letter of non-opposition to Prime Wellness Centers, which will locate a registered marijuana dispensary at 0 Pullman St.

The letter marks a second for a dispensary in Worcester, with a first provided to Good Chemistry of Massachusetts, which will be located at 9 Harrison St.

As a condition of receiving the letter, said an announcement, Prime Wellness Centers has signed a community host agreement equivalent to the one signed by Good Chemistry. The agreement pays the city $100,000, as well as 1.5 percent of gross sales revenue, during the first year of operation.

The dispensary then pays $150,000, plus two percent of the gross sales revenue, in the second year. In the third year, it goes up to $200,000, plus 2.5 percent of gross sales revenue, which continues throughout the duration of the operation.

Prime Wellness Centers will also contribute $10,000 annually to public charities or causes of its choosing benefiting the neighborhood.

As part of these agreements, the City has agreed to approve no more than four Registered Marijuana Dispensary facilities, said the announcement, and no more than one in any neighborhood.

Prime Wellness Centers also received a letter of non-opposition from the Town of Shrewsbury to open a dispensary at 235 Hartford Turnpike (Route 20).
