City Receives $200,000 Grant To Assist In Coronavirus Response
The grant, which was received from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, provides assistance in responding to the pandemic.
WORCESTER, MA — The City of Worcester had received an emergency $200,000 grant to assist with its response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, City Manager Edward M. Augustus told council members at its meeting on Tuesday night. The grant, which was issued by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, will be used, Augustus told council members, for surveillance and case identification, the monitoring of travelers, data management, risk communications support, public health coordination with hospitals and other endeavors relating the city’s efforts.
In addition, the funds can also assist with isolation and quarantine, including housing, wrap-around services, security, environmental control, cleanup and waste management, and behavioral services.
“These funds will ensure a city-wide response to the dire and urgent need threat of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) that poses a significant risk to public health,” Augustus wrote in a memo to council members.
