WORCESTER, MA — It's going to be a big weekend for cannabis in Worcester, and it's not even April.

Worcester's eleventh and twelfth adult-use cannabis stores will open this weekend after getting final operating licenses by the Cannabis Control Commission (CCC) over the past week. At a dozen stores, Worcester has the most of any city in the state — double the number in Boston, and six times the number in Springfield, according to CCC records.

The new Truelieve store will open at 142A Southbridge St. on Saturday with a block party that will take over the street and feature food trucks, live music and other cannabis-related fanfare. The long-awaited Major Bloom store will also open Saturday along Millbury Street.

The Worcester location will be Truelieve's second in the commonwealth after opening in Northampton in June. The company operates 97 recreational and medical dispensaries across Massachusetts, California, Connecticut, Florida, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

"Massachusetts adult-use cannabis customers are some of the first in the country to experience our new brand portfolio which provides a full assortment of the highest-quality cannabis products on the market today," Truelieve CEO Kim Rivers said in a news release Thursday.

The CCC granted Truelieve its operating license during a meeting Thursday morning. Last Friday, the CCC granted Major Bloom its final license. The store will be located at 76 Millbury St., just a few blocks from Diem Cannabis and Good Chemistry — Worcester's first adult-use shop.

And there's more on the way. The Corner Emporium is planning to open a 3,600 square-foot cannabis store in the Ivy Corset building along Jackson Street.
