WORCESTER, MA — A Millbury firefighter who saved three people from a burning truck along I-495 last year was honored for his bravery on Tuesday by Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. — who also happened to witness the fiery crash.

Firefighter Michael Breault is the first recipient of the DA's TEAM Award, which will be given to public safety professionals who "show great courage and embrace a team concept."

Breault was driving along I-495 in Middleborough in July 2018 when he saw a truck drive off the highway and burst into flames. Breault stopped and helped rescue the three men in the truck. Early was also at the scene, and witnessed the entire ordeal.

"Even while off-duty, Michael continued to display selfless service and save the life of another individual in immediate danger. Michael is a true hero and leader," Early said on Tuesday.

Early also highlighted the helpful actions that day of Mary Kate Murphy, a bystander at the scene, and state trooper Cory Medeiros.
