Florida Man Arrested for Drugs, Child Endangerment

A Florida man was stopped on I-84. He had heroin, oxy and other drugs in a car, with a child in the back seat.

WORCESTER COUNTY, MA—A Florida man is facing multiple charges, including driving on drugs, and reckless endangerment of a child, after being stopped in Sturbridge on Saturday night.

Just after 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, Trooper Stephen Hazelton spotted an erratic driver driving a Nissan on I-84 in Sturbridge, and pulled the car over, said Massachusetts State Police.

The driver, Austin Thomas, 30, Cloud, FL, had a young child in the back seat. He was placed under arrest for operating under the influence of drugs. Police found heroin, oxycodone, tramadol and pure THC in the car.

Thomas was transported to the Sturbridge barracks for booking, and released on $5,040 bail.

He was charged with the following offenses:

  1. Possession to Distribute Heroin
  2. Possession of Oxycodone and Tramadol
  3. Possession of THC
  4. OUI of Drugs
  5. Conspiracy to Violate Drug Law
  6. Reckless Endangerment to Children
  7. Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  8. Marked Lanes Violation
  9. Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle
