Flying Tire Causes Serious Injury Crash On Route 2: MSP
State police are searching for a truck with Maine plates in connection to the Wednesday afternoon crash.

FITCHBURG, MA — A driver was seriously injured Wednesday afternoon when their SUV was hit by a tire that flew off another vehicle, according to state police.
The crash happened around 1:30 p.m. along Route 2 in Fitchburg. Police believe the tire came off a pickup truck towing a tractor trailer. The tire smashed into a Jeep that was headed westbound near Mt Elam Road, police said.
State police sent out an alert seeking to find the driver of the truck that was believed to be the source of the tire. Police did find the driver late Wednesday afternoon, but did not say if the person was facing any charges or citations.
