Gun, Pot Found In Highway Bust: State Police

An early-morning incident in Western Mass. led to the arrest of two young men.

CHICOPEE, MA — Two young Springfield men were arrested early Saturday morning after driving down the highway with a loaded gun and marijuana in their car, police said.

Around 12:15 a.m., a State Trooper pulled over a Nissan Altima driving erratically as it drove north on Route 391. The trooper found what he believed to be marijuana and drug dealing paraphernalia with both men and in the vehicle. The trooper also found a loaded Kel-Tec 9mm handgun in the vehicle, police said.

The driver, Omega Walker, 20, and passenger, Dregory Woodard, 18, were arrested and charged with possession of a class D drug with intent to distribute, possession/carrying a firearm, carrying a dangerous firearm, possession of a firearm without FID cards, possession of ammunition without FID cards, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of marijuana over 1 ounce not secured, possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, and possession of an open container of marijuana in a motor vehicle.

Walker was additionally charged firearm violation with one prior violent crime, possession of a firearm in felony, and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

The two will be arraigned Monday.
