High E. Coli Levels Close Worcester Beach
The Indian Lake beach will stay closed until bacteria levels drop, officials said.

WORCESTER, MA — The beach at Shore Park along Indian Lake was closed to swimmers Tuesday after tests found high levels of E. coli in the water, according to city officials.
The beach will remain closed until tests show bacteria levels have receded, officials said. E. coli bacteria can cause mild to severe illness if ingested, and a deadly type of kidney infection.
The Shore Park beach is one of four freshwater beaches operated by the city of Worcester. The other beach along Indian Lake at the end of Clason Road was still open as of Tuesday afternoon. Worcester also operates several pools and splash pads. The state Department of Conservation and Recreation also operates pools and beaches, including two along Lake Quinsigamond.
