Historic Worcester Mill Reopens As 46-Unit Grove Village Lofts
A mill tied to one of Worcester's most prominent industrial companies has begun a new chapter as housing.
WORCESTER, MA — A Grove Street mill tied to one of Worcester’s most prominent industrial companies has begun a new chapter as housing.
The Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday at The Grove Village Lofts, a 46-unit residential development inside the renovated mill at 90 Grove St., according to the chamber.
Community leaders and project partners attended the ceremony, which marked the completion of work intended to preserve the building’s historic character while converting it into housing, the chamber said.
The Massachusetts Historical Commission identifies the property as the Washburn & Moen North Works Cotton Mill. The mill was built in 1863 to produce material used to cover crinoline wire for hoop skirts, according to the commission’s Worcester reconnaissance survey.
The building is part of the Washburn and Moen North Works District, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
The development includes studio and one-bedroom apartments. Amenities also include a fitness center, indoor bicycle storage and in-unit laundry.
