Holy Cross Students Hurt In Crash Expected To Be OK: Report
Eight people involved in the Wednesday crash in Vero Beach, Fla., were still in the hospital as of Thursday morning.
WORCESTER, MA — Eight people injured in the Jan. 15 collision in Vero Beach, Fla., involving a Holy Cross rowing team were still in the hospital as of Thursday morning — but they were all expected to survive, doctors told WCVB.
A total of 13 people were injured Wednesday morning when a van carrying members of the Holy Cross women's rowing team collided with a pickup truck. Sophomore Grace Rett, 20, died in the collision. The van was transporting the team to a training session.
Three of the eight people hospitalized — which includes six members of the team, a coach, and the van driver — were still in critical condition as of Thursday, according to WCVB.
Meanwhile, Holy Cross was mourning the loss of Rett. The college said in a statement there had been an "outpouring of support" in the aftermath. According to the Worcester Telegram, a makeshift memorial had been built for Rett near an indoor rowing machine at Holy Cross — last month, Rett broke a world record after she spent 62 continuous hours using a rowing machine.
"We are grateful for the outpouring of support that our community has received in the wake of yesterday's accident. We know you will continue to join us as we keep our women's rowing team, and their families and friends, in our thoughts and prayers," Holy Cross wrote on Twitter.
