Injured Holy Cross Rower Released From Hospital

WORCESTER, MA — Holy Cross said Friday afternoon that a student-rower injured in a deadly crash has been released from the hospital. Six from Holy Cross — five students and a coach — were still hospitalized in Florida, however.

Megan Moriarty, a senior, was injured in Wednesday's crash, which killed sophomore Grace Rett, 20. Moriarty, who is from Old Lyme, Conn., left Lawnwood Regional Medical Center on Thursday night. The other students and staff in the hospital were identified as Paige Cohen (Atlanta, Ga.), Anne Comcowich (Hopkinton), Maggie O’Leary (Waterbury, Conn.), Bianca McIver (Scarsdale, NY), Hannah Strom (Marion) and coach Patrick Diggins.

The Holy Cross rowers were traveling to a training practice in Vero Beach on Wednesday when their van collided with a pickup truck. The driver of the pickup was also still hospitalized as of Friday.

Holy Cross was set to resume classes on Tuesday after winter break — and those plans were still on track, the college said on Friday.

Philip Boroughs said in an email to the campus sent on Thursday.
