New Fire Breaks Out In Worcester Hours After Firefighter's Death

The three-alarm fire hit a pet store along Pleasant Street in Worcester Wednesday morning.

WORCESTER, MA — Worcester was hit by a second large fire on Wednesday morning, just a few hours after Lt. Jason Menard died battling a house fire.

The three-alarm fire hit a pet supply store at 1102 Pleasant St. at around 10:15 a.m. Wednesday in the Tatnuck Square area. Smoke was pouring from the building as firefighters arrived. The fire was largely knocked down by noon.

Menard died early Wednesday morning as firefighters battled a blaze in a triple-decker at 7 Stockholm St. near Holy Cross. Three firefighters were also hurt, and one was still in serious condition as of Wednesday morning.

The pet store fire was about six miles northwest of the Stockholm Street fire near Worcester State University.
