Loaded AK-47 Found At Gathering For Springfield Homicide Victim
Two 18-year-olds were arrested Saturday after officers found a loaded AK-47 in their car, police said.

SPRINGFIELD, MA — Two men were arrested Saturday after a loaded AK-47 was found in one of the cars at a gathering for a homicide victim, Springfield police said. At around 7 p.m., officers were monitoring a large gathering in the Cottage Street area, which involved people staying in their cars, police said.
As the gathering moved to the Waitling Street area, officers received information about a gun in one of the cars, police said. The car, which police said was unregistered, was stopped around 7:45 p.m. near the intersection of Bay Street and Roosevelt Avenue. Inside, officers found an AK-47 loaded with a 30-round magazine, police said.
The driver, Keonn Gibson, and passenger, Jamal Clark, were both arrested.
Gibson, 18, of Oswego St., is charged with:
- Carrying a Firearm without a license
- Carrying a loaded large capacity Firearm on a public way
- Carrying a Dangerous Weapon while having an active warrant
- Unlicensed Operation of MV
- Unregistered MV
- Uninsured MV
- Number plate violation to conceal ID
- Arrest Warrant
Clark, 18, of Rosemary Dr., is charged with:
- Carrying a Firearm without a license
- Carrying a loaded large capacity Firearm on a public way
Police did not release information about the homicide but said the victim was from College Street.
