MA Judge Extends Hotel Subsidy Program For Hurricane Victims
The program for Puerto Ricans displaced by Hurricane Maria was set to expire over the weekend.

WORCESTER, MA – A federal judge in Worcester has agreed to extend a program that subsidizes hotel stays for Puerto Ricans displaced by Hurricane Maria. U.S. District Court Judge Timothy Hillman issued a court order Tuesday morning after a group of displaced residents filed a lawsuit over the weekend preventing the Transitional Sheltering Assistance program's expiration.
The program would have expired Sunday but was extended to Thursday after the lawsuit was filed, the Worcester Telegram reported. The plaintiffs said they intended to argue the lawsuit as class-action on behalf of the over 1,700 Puerto Ricans in subsidized lodging across the country.
The program will now run at least until July 23, according to FEMA.
