Man Allegedly Kicks, Punches Officers During Arrest: Faces Several Charges

A Webster man is facing several charges.

WORCESTER, MA—A Webster man is facing charges after police allegedly got into a scuffle with him when trying to arrest him following a commercial break in in the area.

Around 11 p.m., on Aug. 31, Worcester police headed to a commercial break-in in progress, with word that the suspect was riding a bike on Milton Street.

Officers found the suspect near the business, and the suspect was reportedly nervous and appeared to be sweating profusely. They identified Christopher Mercedes, 26, Webster, and asked him where he was coming from, said police.

Mercedes was extremely agitated, according to police, screaming, “I did nothing, you can’t stop me!” and kept placing his hands in his pants pockets. Police told him to take his hands out of his pockets and he refused. Officers frisked Mercedes to look for weapons, and he started swinging his arms and striking the officers in the chest. Mercedes was advised that he was under arrest, and he continued to struggle and resist the officers’ attempts to place him in handcuffs.

Officers got Mercedes on the ground, and he continued to kick them. They handcuffed Mercedes and found a black folding knife.

Mercedes was charged with 2 counts of Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, Wanton Destruction of Personal Property, and Carrying a Dangerous Weapon while Disorderly. He will be arraigned today in Worcester District Court.
