Man Arrested for Making Bomb Threat at Library; Stereo Parts Were in His Backpack

A man was arrested at the Worcester Library for making a bomb threat. After he was taken out, officials found stereo parts in his backpack.

WORCESTER, MA — Police were called to the Worcester Public Library on Tuesday after a scare in which a man allegedly said he had a bomb in his backpack.

Worcester police responded around 2 p.m. responded to 3 Salem Square for a report of a bomb threat. They found a large group of people leaving the library, and were flagged down by a library staff member, who was standing next to a man, a backpack nearby.

Robert Lopez, 19, 25 Queen St., Worcester, told officers that the backpack was his and that there were stereo parts in it. Library staff told officers that Lopez had told a female inside the library that there was a bomb in his backpack.

Police found stereo speakers, cell phones, wires and an amplifier in the backpack.

Lopez was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters. Mr. Lopez was charged with Possession of a Hoax Device, Threats causing Evacuation or Disruption and Making Bomb Threats.
