WORCESTER, MA — A 41-year-old Canton man was arrested and charged recently after entering a Worcester high school with a gun to look for a student, according to police.

Jerome Weekes, a Canton resident, went to Doherty High School on Thursday afternoon. Witnesses reported that he was seen with the gun inside his car. He then went inside the school to look for a "student who was having issues with his daughter," police said.

"Weekes had an object in the front pocket of his sweatshirt which appeared to be a handgun," police said in a news release. "The pair walked to a specific classroom and looked around. They then proceeded to search hallways and corridors. After a short period of time, both then exited the building without incident."

Worcester and Canton police arrested Weekes at his home in Canton on Friday and charged with carrying a firearm on a campus.

The incident happened during a scare about school violence linked to a TikTok trend. The incident also came one day after two Worcester Technical High School 9th graders were arrested for making threats of gun violence.
