Man Charged After Firing Gun Into Air In Worcester Neighborhood

The incident happened early Saturday morning along Maywood Street, according to police.

WORCESTER, MA — Worcester police arrested an Oxford man over the weekend after he reportedly fired a gun into the air in the Main South area.

Police responded to an undisclosed location along Maywood Street just after 1 a.m. Saturday after getting an alert from a ShotSpotter gunshot detection device.

Nearby, police spotted the 23-year-old Oxford man driving a box truck along Chandler Street with a passenger, a 27-year-old from Worcester.

During a search of the truck, police found ammunition, a handgun, a pellet gun and crack cocaine. The Oxford man was arrested and charged with possession of drugs with intent to distribute, firing a gun within 500 feet of a home and several gun law violations.

The passenger was charged with improper storage of a gun, being an accessory to drug distribution and resisting arrest.
